As for the book, I read it last year, and while reading had the same reaction as I had while listening. It's a great mix between a romance and a political thriller, with a moving story of one man finally being able to embrace his identity. I really liked it, but it would have been even better if it had been a little shorter. Some of Tom's musings get a bit repetitive at times and in the end the repetitions lessened their impact on me. Still, I highly enjoyed this one and would love to listen to the rest of Tal Bauer's books - especially if read by Mr. Leslie.

Himmel hilf, eh.
Erst einmal, ich mochte das Buch! Vor allem aber mochte ich den letzten Part, wo es zum Gerichtsprozess kam, der auch im Klappentext schon angekündigt wurde. Schon in „Whisper“ habe ich es geliebt, wie Bauer mit Politik und den Berufsfeldern seiner Charaktere umgegangen ist und wie er sie ausarbeitet und auch schreibt. Wie sehr er ins Detail geht. Vielleicht langweilt es manche Leute, das ausschweifende Hin und Her der Anwälte zu hören, aber ich habe es geliebt!
Davon hätte das Buch einfach viel mehr haben können – noch mehr Einblicke in die Arbeit von Tom und Mike.
Auch hat Tom sehr schnell mein Herz erobert. Ich konnte mit ihm mitfühlen, bin wütend und traurig geworden und später unendlich froh. Was mich allerdings mit der Zeit wirklich irgendwie genervt (?) hat, waren seine repetitiven Gedanken und seine Ängste, weil er halt noch nicht geoutet war und einfach auch so viel Angst und Bedenken wegen seiner Vergangenheit hatte.
Ich kann diese Gedanken verstehen und ich denke, dass es eine sehr realistische Darstellung war, aber ich glaube, ich habe einfach nicht damit gerechnet und war deshalb überfordert, weil ich mich darauf nicht so schnell einlassen konnte. Es war mir zu weinerlich, zu „emotional“.
Gleichzeitig hat ihn das so nahbar und liebevoll gemacht. Ich habe seine ganze Art einfach vergöttert und auch die Art und Weise, wie Mike mit allem umgegangen ist.

Das Ende war wie bei Whisper so ein „Bombeneinschlag“ und mir ein wenig zu viel ... aber ich kann darüber hinwegsehen, denn der Fall war einfach so nice und Tom so ein smoother Richter. Ich hatte einfach so viel Spaß, da kann ich nicht nachtragend sein.
Joel Leslie hat ganz arg wundervoll und emotional gelesen. Er hat all die Akzente (nur hat es mich mega irritiert, dass Kris hier so krass Akzent hatte und der in Whisper – von jemand anderem gelesen – halt so gar nicht vorhanden war :’D) und Charaktere wundervoll verkörpert und ich bin großer Fan. <3

"Hush" is well written in most parts, but it's recognizable an early work.
From what I experienced and also taken for grantedthis time, Tal Bauer has an extraordinary talent for playing with language and creating complex characters. In his other novels he made me feel and smell landscapes, get really connected with the protagonists and want to soak up the words and not just the plot.
With "Hush" he couldn't get me this much captivated, though I really liked Tom and Mike, and though the whole thing took off finally .
It simply doesn’t have the extraordinary visual power I knew from his other books.
Moreover I was a bit confused to get a story where half of the plot is filled with the "coming of age" story of a 40+ man (please do not get me wrong - it's great to come out at all, better late than never, but outside court the two of them seem to behave like 16 y.o.).
And though of course I appreciate explicit scenes (who does not?), it wasn't what I expected, and as far as I’m concerned it could have been more crime and less repeati g sex scenes.
And what's this thing with Kris? He was born and grew up in NYC, had spent his whole life there, he is a CIA Agent and has a great talent for languages - so why on earth is he doomed to have this very thick accent? Compared to "Whisper" he also seems way to sassy and exaggerated. Looks like Bauer thought his character through one more time when writing "whisper".
All in all "Hush" is a nice read, but you should read (or listen to it) first, before getting to his later novels.
