Über diesen Titel
An enemies-to-friends-to-lovers lesbian romance about finding heart, hope, and second chances you never thought you'd have.
Stella Carter is a former criminal prosecutor and new widow facing down middle age alone in Los Angeles. Without being a prestigious lawyer and someone's wife, she's not sure who she is anymore or where her life is headed.
When she invites her niece to move in with her, Stella accidentally reconnects with her former colleague, LAPD Captain Elizabeth Murphy. The woman is beautiful but cold; someone she was always at odds with on the job.
Surprisingly, Stella finds herself leaning on her niece and Elizabeth more and more to navigate her loss. But as time goes on, Stella can't keep seeing Elizabeth and pretending she's not attracted to her. Besides, there's absolutely no way Elizabeth feels the same way. Is there?
Contains mature themes.

This book hit me unexpectedly deeply!
The audiobook just as much! The narration was absolutely amazing!
I didn't know anything about it, except that a lot of people thought it was great.
I didn't know anything specific about the story, just that grief was part of it all.
All I can say is, Wow!
It's hard, but also so full of depth and love.
It's, at least I think, a pretty realistic picture of depression coupled with grief.
Stella's grief for her late husband is not entirely clear at first.
You know she is grieving and is in a phase of self-abandonment.
Everything slowly becomes clearer as something new emerges. But it takes time!
Starting with her wonderful niece Addie (such a sweet character, I love her).
She moves in with her aunt, because she is taking a year off from school and wants to support her.
Both are and have always been very close!
This is how Stella comes back into contact with her former nemesis, Elizabeth Murphy.
The woman, her former captain, who even back then made everything inside her shudder, and not necessarily in a good way.
The person with whom she clashed the most. This woman, of all people, wants to help her? None of this makes any sense to Stella, but Addie is very convincing.
Why is Elizabeth so stubborn and so patient with her?
And what's that buzzing under her skin, whenever Elizabeth is with her?
That was a slightly different love story, but nonetheless a love story that will stay with me for a while.
The story of Stella and Elizabeth is simply touching and beautiful!

Beautiful story about lost, grief but also about love & life
I liked the entire audio book. Anastasia Watley is the right voice for this book by Emily Waters.
A book about loss and grief and a somewhat atypical but wonderful romance between two older women.
This story is about Stelle (early 50) who lost the ground beneath her feet after the death of her husband.
She remains in a depressed state and is barely able to cope with her everyday life. Her young niece Addy, who comes to her in LA, and an old acquaintance who unexpectedly comes into her life are Stella's support and at the same time her motivation. Stella has to come to terms with the past, what happened and learn to accept help from others. Things don't always go smoothly and the story is told sensitively and authentically. So is the love story between Stella and Elizabeth (early 60).
Stella, Elizabeth and Addy are a great team and I quickly took each of these characters to my heart.
This is not a romance colored with pink sugar, but a story that is very maturely written and has its sad, thoughtful as well as warm and life-affirming moments.
