Tough women in an over the top idealistic story!
I have listened to many regency and victorian romances and this book so far is in the top 5! I love the modernity of the characters and the secret women's society out to change the world. These are capable women not spoiled society girls who know nothing of the world. It's so unrealistic but wonderful at the same time.
I love Mary Jane Wells and stumbeled across this book because I was explicitly looking for her. I gave only for stars for her narration though because to me the Duke sounded too arrogant and imperius in the first half of the book. Even though he was probably intended that way. Otherwise I thought she was even bette than in other books. Maybe because there is more action?
This is the book for anyone who doesn't want to cringe because of a lack of consent or is increasingly annoyed because of the role virginity plays in so many similar books. If that means it is less true to the period, I don't care. I'm definetly going to listen to the rest of the series, too. This is fun with a little female empowement on the side!
