Über diesen Titel

I've been told to go to Hell more times than I can count. But this time I'm actually going. My name's Bobby Dollar, sometimes known as Doloriel, and of course, Hell isn't a great place for someone like me - I'm an angel. They don't like my kind down there, not even the slightly fallen variety. But they have my girlfriend, who happens to be a beautiful demon named Casimira, Countess of Cold Hands. Why does an angel have a demon girlfriend? Well, certainly not because it helps my career.

She's being held hostage by one of the nastiest, most powerful demons in all of the netherworld - Eligor, Grand Duke of Hell. He already hates me, and he'd like nothing better than to get his hands on me and rip my immortal soul right out of my borrowed but oh-so-mortal body. But wait, it gets better! Not only do I have to sneak into Hell, make my way across thousands of miles of terror and suffering to reach Pan-demonium, capital of the fiery depths, but then I have to steal Caz right out from under Eligor's burning eyes and smuggle her out again, past demon soldiers, hellhounds, and all the murderous creatures imprisoned there for eternity.

And even if I somehow manage to escape Hell, I'm also being stalked by an undead psychopath named Smyler who's been following me for weeks. Oh, and did I mention that he can't be killed? So if I somehow survive Hell, elude the Grand Duke and all his hideous minions, and make it back to the real world, I'll still be the most hunted soul in Creation. But at least I'll have Caz. Gotta have something to look forward to, right? So just pour me that damn drink, will you? I've got somewhere to go.

Fast Pacing Through Hell

Tad William continues his In Nomine setting "Bobby Dollar", this time in Hell itself. Like in the first part, the places and characters are decribed wonderfully. There are very few characters from the first part, and the overall story of the 3rd Way gets lost in the fast pacing through hell.
It is again strange that even now Bobby is more paranoid of heaven than of hell - he is the typical american "one man by himself".
The speaker is again brilliant, every character gets his own speechpattern. And, as an extra bonus (which was actually expected): We get a piece of Dante's Inferno!

Gute Fortsetzung

A typical middle part of a trilogy

But that is not at all bad, it is thoroughly enjoyable, albeit a bit gruesome as can be expected from the setting.

What a let-down!

I am SO disappointed in this continuation. I really, really liked the first book, it was funny, it was entertaining, it raised issues, asked questions, answered a lot, gave also you the opportunities to answer them yourself… likeable characters, interesting story, great pace - it's really good.

But this one… not so much. It's, like another reviewer said, the middle part of a trilogy, it's slow, it's recapping loads of the last book, it doesn't really feel like ANYTHING was achieved by the end… yeah, definitely a bad example of a middle book.

The story itself is creative (though too graphic and horrible for my taste), and it's definitely a journey you won't forget, but what I just hated soooo much was the fact, that the author took the weakest part of the first book (in my opinion) and turned it into the main, actually only, driving point for this book - the love story. It is cheesy, it is lazy, it is not believable, but you kinda take it anyway because, well, apparently we need the sexy token female, oh so strong but ah, so vulnerable… yeah, it was at best okay in the first book.
And now, in this one, it's all about her. He is obsessed with her and goes to ridiculous lengths to save her, in parts the whole thing made me really want to rage-quit Itunes. It's so hard to get through the lovey-dovey parts only to get to the few really good bits...

I will definitely read the last book in the trilogy though, first of because I think Tad Williams is absolutely amazing, and because I really hope it recovers to the standards of the first one.

In summary: Listen to it if you plan to continue with the series and really liked the first one, if you are super into gory, disgusting torture and sad stories of unjustly punished souls… otherwise give it a pass
