Über diesen Titel
Beneath the murky waters of the lake, an ancient being slumbers, and Brygida is its servant. Kept sheltered in the woods by her mothers from the nearby village, Brygida has never had so much as a friend - until the day she meets a charming stranger painting by the lake. He invites her to the village's harvest feast, but her taste of the forbidden ends with a murder.
Called into service for the first time, Brygida must take up her ancestral duty as Reaper of Death and solve the murder within three days. If she brings the murderer to the lake on the third day, the being she serves will be sated. If she fails, Brygida herself will be drawn beneath the murky waters, and the village massacred. There's only one problem: The main suspect is her charming painter, Kaspian.
As Brygida investigates, the dangers are many and answers few. The village and her family stand against her, and with time running short, the lake demands a price. Brygida believes Kaspian is innocent, but can she stake her life on it, when failure means condemning the rest of the village, and being dragged into the deep...?

Not what I expected but interesting enough
Mysterious and different but good. Still some questions that I hope the sequels will fill in though because there is some mysteriousness happening in these woods. I thought it would be something like the Arthurian “lady of the lake” thing but it’s like a hybrid between lady of the lake, the witch of the forst and reapers. Although there is little myth or legend as a whole and more so a very mysterious strange girl from the woods, charged with reaping the guilty one for a horrific crime -or die in its place if she brings the wrong soul- so she, much like a detective, has to hear out all the villagers. It feels like the villagers know they’re bound by this strange mysterious girl’s view on what has happened that has lead to a girl’s suffering and death. Which explains their fear of course. The gril herself is so estranged from the normal world that her bewondering and needing to play detective before the lake fulfills it’s own view on justice -taking her as the victims revenge instead of the killer should she bring the wrong one or be too late. Interesting storyline, grateful that I can listen to the second book now!
As far as the mythical feel of it, it’s like a little peek or a promise (I hope) for more myth in the sequels.
