Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive – but not how to live

Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend.

Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything.

One simple act of kindness is about to shatter the walls Eleanor has built around herself. Now she must learn how to navigate the world that everyone else seems to take for granted – while searching for the courage to face the dark corners she’s avoided all her life.

Change can be good. Change can be bad. But surely any change is better than… fine?

Some of the other listeners wrote that they had difficulties getting through the first half of the book. I'd like to disagree since I enjoyed every minute of it. Sometimes I was a bit worried because I could identify so deeply with the protagonist and her thoughts about other people. To hear how she gets to know the world more and more, making meaningful connections on the way therefore made me very happy. But the best is the speaker. I'm sure I'd have enjoyed the book if I had read it myself but the speaker is so wonderful that I'm glad I chose the audiobook. She has a very kind voice and acts out the funny parts so well that I laughed a lot. I highly recommend this audiobook, it was a pleasure.

I enjoyed every minute of it

It is a beautiful story, very sad but beautifully written, with a kind positive ending.
The reader of the story, Cathleen McCarron, does a fantastic job!

Beautiful

"The journey of a young woman finding herself" sounds cliché yet this story is anything but! Written from an emotionally intelligent angle, at times hilarious but always respectful of its characters, the story may actually leave us with a kinder, more empathetic view on odd strangers, on people we think we know, and, perhaps, on ourselves. Thanks to the wonderful narrator, the Glasgow setting seems to come to life, adding a kind of warm background melody.

Quirky, moving, suspenseful story, great narrator

It's an interesting way to write a story, you learn more about Eleanor at the same pace as she does, so it starts out with this strange, Kind og funny girl, then you learn bits and bits more about her.... A really sweet, moving story.

Such a sweet story that evolves
