I regret buying this

I liked the setting and the world-building, that's it.
After listening to our protagonist panic, miss his wife, and whine for hours, I am done.

"I put my hands over my ears to keep out the Bishkavi(?) howls, but they raged for what felt like hours. [...] There was also a reasonable chance it was just me panicking. That. graded. me! I was not someone who panicked."
Yeah mate, me as well. The past 7h of this audiobook were you panicking.

"I was not someone who lost control."
Then who was possessing your body these past seven hours?

At that point, I was ready to quit, but I finished anyways. If you are like me, looking for a light listen to get you through a long night, this audiobook is probably not for you.
If you want a 'drama queen' stumbling through another world, constantly pining for his dead wife, claiming to be a grown man while acting like a moody teen, you absolutely must give this a listen.

Es fehlt an Spannung

Grundsätzlich ist der Ansatz des Buches interessant in welchem sich ein alter Mann in dem Körper eines 8 jährigen Jungens in einer neuen Welt wiederfindet.

Das Buch ist slow paced was über Strecken in Ordnung wäre aber es bleibt auch in den vermeintlich spannenden Passagen schwerfällig. Letzteres ist zum Teil dem Erzähler geschuldet, der in seiner Art zu sprechen eher Spiritualität und Langeweile transportiert.

Auch wenn sich das Buch von vielen LitRPG Büchern in gewisser Weise angenehm abhebt - bestätigt durch die vielen positiven Rezensionen - für mich war es nichts und die Serie wird nicht fortgeführt.

Totally get it , why this is well received.

I enjoyed it overall.

I really can't seem to find a bad point. I have no glue who put up 1 Star on this xD.
It's just not a rambo go all lucky slaugther feast.

So what did i enjoy?

The Status Screen sections are done well. Not repeating overly much and quick to get over with it. Nothing is more tiring then audiobooks that copy 1 : 1 the written form of that ... so it's really refreshing to see it done well again in an amateur book

There's an interesting take on the "rpg system" on "Magic" and "aloooott" ,

With likeable characters that feel alive. All mixed up together with some funky spiritualism and good old dad jokes here and there.

One could point out, the fact that our MC has a good streak of luck.
Or just really horrible luck, with skittering into dangerous stuff.

It's slow going and easy to enjoy. How i like it.
The MC isn't gonna pop up to be Overpowered in less then 2 paragraphs.
There's no needless harems.
He's a somewhat grown man and the way he goes about life shows that somewhat.


Oh. Did i mention likeable characters?
Even the enemys have spunk in them and aren't papermache exp partycrackers.
They got grit for the most part. If one ignores the icky first monsters to battle xD.

Then ...
There's a cute helper.
There's another cute helper.
A weird god.
And then there's some other helpers that really gotten the wrong impression of eight.



If i really needed to point at something i dont like ...
Then the whole premise of him starting with stats at 8 overall, being named eight and probably the fact that he seemed to just get chased off a village. Felt a bit like the start wasn't too deeply tought out, but then it got rolling into a good direction?

So give it a hour or two, it develops.

Superb narration for a fun story

I really liked this lightweight adventure of a LitRPG story. The characters were like able and the twist of the “old person” in a young body was really intriguing.
It all felt a little flat/ episodic at times though. That might be an issue with the genre though.
