No other thriller author has ever gotten into my head as Sharon Bolton does. Noone ever made me feel like she can. How many books promise a hellish thrillride and fail to deliver? Sharon Bolton never does and I tell you why. Because her characters are an integral part of the story. She doesn't use her investigative staff solely to solve the case, we see it unfold through their eyes. Lacey Flint isn't an interchangeable law enforcer like so many others, she's a woman with a hell of her own story. That's what makes a believable character and for a believable story in the end. I feared for Lacey, I felt for her, and not only for her - all the other charcters are brought to life in a way that makes you want to safe the whole lot of them, even the victims you already know dead.
So far I've read three books in this series (started with the third, now I'll have to re-read it which is not exactly bad...) and each and everyone outdid the pervious one. Every case is thoroughly solved, there are no open questions remaning, the plots are multi-layered and beautifully crafted. I am in love with this series. These are psychological thrillers that deserve the name. And I'm longing to know what happens to Lacey (and Joesbury) next...
Mrs. Bolton, you deserve a shrine in my bookshelf.
