This was the first novel by Mary Lawson that I read. It was immediately followed by a reading spree of all her novels, as she is a master storyteller and has a deep understanding of human nature and human shortcomings. Her prose is pristine, seemingly simple and without pathos. The family story also seems simple, yet has great depths. The protagonist takes her time to unravel a troubled childhood and come to terms with her life and its meaning.
The book is masterfully read and a pure joy to listen to! This is literature at its best. Comparable to the novels of E.Strout.
