Whether subsisting on caterpillars for dinner during hard times, being thrown from a moving car during an attempted kidnapping, or just trying to survive the life-and-death pitfalls of dating in high school, Noah illuminates his curious world with incisive wit and unflinching honesty. His stories weave together to form a personal portrait of an unlikely childhood in a dangerous time, as moving and unforgettable as the very best memoirs and as funny as Noah's own hilarious stand-up.

Absolutely remarkable
I am amazed by the similarities of a childhood in the developing world. I recognize this world and I appreciate someone with the grace and courage to tell it in a self-aware and genteel manner. Commonwealth life... decolonization. These stories inform me more about the human spirit than anything else.

Super
Trevor Noah explains his own childhood through his eyes nowadays as well as back then, Therefore the reader gain knowledge how it was to life under the apartheid system in South Africa. Nevertheless, it is told humorously which makes the story quite entertaining and not only frustrating.

Moving experiences - unbelievable insights
Noah appears to be a stunning performer of the story of his breathtaking upbringing. I enjoyed every minute. This audiobook makes me laughing and crying and it is a very important story about having faith in God even when it looks as there is none.

Loved the story and narration!❤
Interesting and funny stories. Best narration that I have heard in an audio book ever. Trevor Noah modulated his voice so well for different characters, this book was fun :)

Respect for Trevor
Seeing the successful Trevor on the daily show now, and having learnt about his past from the book, I now have tremendous respect for him! I sometimes found the story to be a little meandering, but overall was interesting.
