Emma Gregory liest was das Zeug hält aber der Autor kann sich nicht entscheiden, ob er eine Satire abliefern will oder eine menschliche Innenschau des Kriegsbeginns in England.
So viele Figuren sind derart überzeichnet, dass es an Kasperletheater erinnert. Aber das ist vielleicht Absicht in der Tradition von Punch and Judy. Schade, dass die wirklich empathischen Zwischentöne der Protagonistin in der plakativen Groteske ertrinken.
In Zeiten von Corona war mir das Buch trotzdem eine willkommene Ablenkung.

I Love the Gower Street books and have read/listened to every one of them and really enjoyed it. I was really excited by this new series, but have to say I am a bit disappointed. the performance is fantastic, but the story line is a bit flat (albeit many bodies), but not many interesting suspect. also there are too many too annoying characters, such as Dodo and the twins. It works in the Gower Street books with one annoying Molly, but this is just too much especially since they are main characters.
