Über diesen Titel
New York Times Best Seller
“I come from a family forged by tragedies and bound by a remarkable, unbreakable love,” Hunter Biden writes in this deeply moving and “unflinchingly honest” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir of addiction, loss, and survival.
When he was two years old, Hunter Biden was badly injured in a car accident that killed his mother and baby sister. In 2015, he suffered the devastating loss of his beloved big brother, Beau, who died of brain cancer at the age of 46. These hardships were compounded by the collapse of his marriage and a years-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction.
In Beautiful Things - “an astonishingly candid and brave book about loss, human frailty, wayward souls, and hard-fought redemption” (Dave Eggers, New York Times best-selling author) - Hunter recounts his descent into substance abuse and his tortuous path to sobriety. The story ends with where Hunter is today - a sober married man with a new baby, finally able to appreciate the beautiful things in life.

Incredibly moving
No book has helped me understand the mind and emotional landscape of addiction as deeply as Hunter Biden’s memoir. His journey with grief is heart wrenching. I am in awe of his vulnerability. His sense of humour provides moments of lightness. Plus, he has such a beautiful voice! A remarkable man - from a family so full of love they are an inspiration to us all.

This book sure is a beautiful thing!
For me, this was one of very few books that I could hardly put down or to be more precise stop listening to. I would highly recommend the audiobook. Not only does Hunter have a beautiful voice but hearing it from his own lips makes it so much more real.
He really tells it all. He doesn’t try to hide, gloss over or sugarcoat. He also doesn’t ask you to pity him. He shows you the “ordinary life” of an addict and takes the readers with him into the dark alleys of addiction.
His openness about the extremes of addiction was both fascinating and quite heartbreaking. This book also illustrates that even though you are encircled within a family of love, addiction separates you from them and you are all alone and nobody can reach you. But despite all that it is not a sad book.
If this book were a movie, the critics would probably be unhappy with the ending. Too much, too cheesy, too over-the-top. But this is not a movie, it’s real life and if there is a universal truth, then it is that love is the greatest power after all.
Great book, absolutely worth listening to it. Enjoyed it tremendously.
