It's a slog
Boring, annoying and makes little sense, that would be my summary of the 1st half, since I stopped listening after that. The characters are very unlikeable, especially the protagonist.
All the flash backs are annoying since they aren't worked into the story in a way that doesn't break the flow of the main story, every time one comes up it destroys the pacing.
Piper could never be a good business woman the way she is portrayed in the book.
Kendal does nothing against her brother for the 1st half of the book, but she has time to make business deals and soak in melancholy.
The reason why they didn't act faster against Kendals brother isn't explained in the 1st half of the book even though the book mentions it quite a few times, wich is a cheap way for a writer to strong arm the reader to read more.
I'm really quite disappointed since the short plot description on the shop page was a more fulfilling read than what I listened to for 5 hours after buying the audiobook.
I think the way the story was written does translate very badly to an audiobook, if I had read the book, I probably would've been able to finish the story instead of getting too annoyed to go on after the 1st half of the story.
