Über diesen Titel

A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood.

The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets.

The colony ships heading for the 1,000 new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them. James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the embattled remnants of the old political powers call on the Rocinante for a desperate mission to reach Medina Station at the heart of the gate network. But the new alliances are as flawed as the old, and the struggle for power has only just begun.

As the chaos grows, an alien mystery deepens. Pirate fleets, mutiny and betrayal may be the least of the Rocinante's problems. And in the uncanny spaces past the ring gates, the choices of a few damaged and desperate people may determine the fate of more than just humanity.

...on the one Hand you cannot get enough of it. The stories are well written, the pace is good, the Science is very cool, the characters are interesting. But on the other hand The Expanse series has a range of negative side effects. The overall story arc seems unbelievable...unrealistic. Yes, it is a science fiction story, but all humanity has to do is to destroy itself. There is almost nothing in between, but destruction follows more destruction, follows more destruction. And I do not want to believe or confess, that that is the only thing that makes this series so interesting. Don’t get me wrong: The Expanse is a great story, that is thrilling and huge and very complex. But then it seems oversimplified and this is most visible when it comes to the main characters. Holden seems the worst choice for absolutely anything. He is just the guy in the from row who happened to be at the epicentres of the plot by coincidence. He isn’t the kind of hero you would like to identify with, because his success always relies on the muscle of soldiers, or the intelligence of People more capable than him or (in the past) the guidance of an energy ghost. The hard work is done by the others. Holden is just narcissistic enough to take credit for it without feeling bad. But in this book he even gets topped by the bad guy and pseudo-antagonist Marco Inaros. Well. To create a real evil character in a world that is only made of a few shades of mean, is really difficult and so the authors fail with that in my opinion. The things Inaros started in Book five are only pathos in book six. The only thing he is capable of is longing for the next big thing to happen and to let everyone know, that he is the messiahs that was responsible. But he fails with that. There is nothing more to him and so he looks like an Evil-Holden in the end. Nothing but hot air.
The end of this book could have been a Happy End if it was the last book, but then it would have been ridiculous to end a series like The Expanse like that. And although the thought of quitting the series accompanied me since book two or three, I cannot stop. The Expanse is like a drug. You know it has side effects, but you cannot get away from it... so I won’t stop. Until it’s finally over :)

The Expanse is like a drug...

If you've made it to Book Six, you don't have to read any more reviews. Babylon's Ashes is another gripping novel with the complex characters we've grown to love, with the amazing reading of Jefferson Mays.
