Perfect
I hate three things about this:
First: Why was it over so fast?!
Second: Why, oh, why do I have to wait so long for the next book (well, obvious of course, but waily, waily!) ?!
Third: Why didn´t have that great idea?!
No, fun over: All stories have been told. And still in fantasy I grave for books which tell the same old story, but do it in a very new way. This is so with the books of Benedict Jacka. He offers new settings and very unexpected twists that keeps me attached until the last word. Yes, the story is about a young man, figuring out that he has special powers, enters an ever growing and complex world of, well, wizzardry (not really true here) and fights his way through it. Do you know the plot?
But this approach is so good and interesting that it I could say: I its new and asthonishing. Which is exactly what I love.
So to everyone who loves well established and complex characters, and an all new setup plus a very good built: this is your book.
As well as the Alex Virus - series by him.

Cant wait for the next part
The author manages to create a new fantasy world that is no less fascinating than the one of Alex Verus. The story itself is catching and REALLY leaves me longing for more.
I especially appreciate the effort the author makes to take you along the thinking process of the main character - you don’t end up with the feeling of “no one would act that way in reality” I get from other books.

awesome Speaker
Die Geschichte ist typisch Jacka/ Jim Butcher spannend. Ich habe es in wenigen Tagen durchgeführt.
Der Sprecher ist absolut fantastisch! angenehm zu hören, sehr lebendig ohne übertrieben nervig zu sein, kann die verschiedenen Charaktere auseinander halten und - sogar die Katze kriegt er richtig super hin.

Great start to a new magic series
Interesting magic concept that the reader gradually learn through the eyes of the protagonist. Good balance of foreshadowing and not giving away too much and character development. Alreald looking forward to the next installment.

Likeable character, great narrator
I liked the story , how down-to-earth and logical it was, despite it having a magic system. The main character is very likeable. I did find the ending very abrupt, but I look forward to the sequel. The narrator does a great job and I truly felt like the main character and the narrator were one and the same person.

Großartiger Start in eine neue Reihe
Wie von Jacka gewohnt ist dieser Band sehr gut geschrieben, die Geschichte ist packend und macht Lust auf mehr. Der britische Sprecher ist fantastisch.

Great!
I think the narrator is very good and the story is very promising. A worthy successor to Alex Verus. I have already pre-ordered the next book.

metric ton of world building packaged into action packed bitsizes. fantastic.
riveting. i was hooked from the start. masterclass in how to pack a metric ton of world building into an action spattered continuously high stakes slightly lower stakes carousel that just keeps on going. so glad i only found this now two weeks out from the sequel because i CANNOT WAIT for the next installment.
