To these seven narratives of neurological disorder, Dr. Sacks brings the same humanity, poetic observation, and infectious sense of wonder that are apparent in his best sellers Awakenings and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. These men, women, and one extraordinary child emerge as brilliantly adaptive personalities, whose conditions have not so much debilitated them as ushered them into another reality.

Kritikerstimmen

"True to his past work, he offers compelling stories told with the cognizance of a clinician and the heart and compassion of a poet." ( Library Journal)

I have enjoyed 2 books of Oliver Sacks very much (Der Mann, der seine Frau mit einem Hut verwechselte and his other well known book, which' title has escaped me right now) but this audiobook is awful! It is so incredibly boring that it is hard to believe it was written by the same author. In each chapter Sacks describes one patient, his deficiency and all of his symptoms with a lengthiness beyond all bearing. I bet not even the mother of each patient would be interested in a such overwhelmingly detailed and long drawn description. Desperately you hope for any interesting conclusion or summary at the end but don't, really, forget it. Now you may think that you at least could learn something about neurology or the brain function, but even if you manage to keep focused while the author dwells on and on the bottom- line facts are so few that you' d better buy yourself a neurological textbook if you must know. So do not buy this book. Life is too short.
