The writing felt flat at first and I didn’t feel any connection to the characters. Once the gist few chapters were done I enjoyed the rest of the story.

Die Geschichte ist ganz nett, hat aber viele Längen. Ich kann mich sicher als Deutsche nicht richtig in die Lage eines Amerikaners hineinfühlen, der afrikanische Wurzeln hat und aufgrund seiner Hautfarbe überall Sorge vor Diskriminierung haben muss. Das ist wirklich erschreckend! Die Hautfarbe Roys Steht immer wieder im Mittelpunkt und wird als Grund für seine unrechtmäßige Verhaftung angegeben. Aber gleichzeitig wird gezeigt, dass das Leben draußen Trotzdem für seine Frau weitergeht. Die Idee ist gut, aber die Entwicklung relativ vorhersehbar. Ich fand die Stimmung toll!

I could not stop listening . I surfed through waves of emotions, shock , sadness, outrage, betrayal, even a taste for revenge to finally rest with mercy and understanding. I recommend this read, I travelled with every single characters some more than others. So will anyone who reads the book. I recommend it.

A fantastic read

This book made me understand how real men behave in difficult situations, how much honour to certain people means, what real love can be and how to make peace with something you have lost. All male characters are very special, each of them in their own way. The female character is somebody I couldn’t relate to, but nevertheless admire for the way she was loved by all around her. I especially liked the speakers. Because of them I felt like a part of the story, ready to answer the characters’ letters myself. Many thanks for the very enjoyable listening time.
