could not fininish

I could not finish the last story. Overall, this is a good series - not great, because it's the exact same theme in each new book, but working. The last story though... I do not like Antonio. Wait, that isn't strong enough. I do NOT like Antonio. He is SUCH an incredible asshole. I love Finn, he was one of my favorite characters and I was looking forward to his story until I found out who his mate was going to be. I thought "Well, I'll give it a chance, who knows, maybe this will bring out some of his good qualities."

Yeah, no.

Finn does NOT want Antonio when they meet and find out they're mates. Antonio thus orders his men to kidnap him, twice, which does not work. He refuses the idea of courting his mate as "ridiculous". Finn is adamant he does not want Antonio. So Antonio strategizes a plan to get him out of his safe place and lies in waiting for Finn. Against his express wishes. He strats touching Finn. Against his express wishes. He then proceeds to do everything he can to get Finn into a mating bond with him. Against Finn's express wishes.
I'm sorry, but I just can not deal with that. What he's doing is raising SO many red flags and ringing so many alarm bells in my mind, and I know this story is headed for a quote on quote "happy ending", which with that beginning, makes me honestly miserable to think about. Antonio is crossing several lines here, and what he's doing, getting Finn to give in while he's so weak from heat he can barely stand, is in my mind clearly rape. It would be a different story if it would stop there, but it won't. This is corrupting a character I came to care about, and omitting the message that doing things like this is in any way okay. It is not.

It is NOT okay. I do NOT like how that last story was constructed.

Oh, and another thing. I also do not like the thing about this universe where NOBODY EVER RESISTS the urge to instantly mate their fated mate as soon as they meet, not even when the character in question is clearly traumatized and does not want sex. I also do not like that mating is not possible without sex. That just disregards so many aspects of relationships. This is a thing that started in the series before this one and has continued, and it gave me a very icky feeling already back then. These stories are sadly not about developing relationships much, they're more about sex. That's very disappointig to me. I had hoped that this series might focus more on the relationship aspects since it's about kids, but nope.

There's also several other things in here that go against my morals, but the last story was the worst. Which is very sad. I usually enjoy Susi Hawke's writing fine; not the biggest fan, but do enjoy her work. This series though... Quite a few things in here that I wish would have been handled - or at least adressed - differently.
