Über diesen Titel
Book one in the Ahriman series.
Cast out of his Legion, the sorcerer Ahriman, who condemned the Thousand Sons to an eternity of damnation, plots his return to power and the destruction of his foes.
Listen to it because: experience the beginning of an epic, time-twisting saga of revenge, betrayal and attempted atonement. John French takes the Ahriman you know and love from the Horus Heresy in new and interesting directions, making him both deeply sympathetic and thoroughly evil.
The story: all is dust.... Spurned by his former brothers and his father, Magnus the Red, Ahriman is a wanderer, a sorcerer of Tzeentch whose actions condemned an entire Legion to an eternity of damnation. Once a vaunted servant of the Thousand Sons, he is now an outcast, a renegade who resides in the Eye of Terror. Ever scheming, he plots his return to power and the destruction of his enemies, an architect of fate and master of the warp.
Written by John French. Narrated by Mark Elstob.

Great story. The speaker though...
The story is fascinating and really does Ahriman justice. And the speaker does a fine job as long he just narrates. Unfortunately, Ahriman himself is very unfitting. And every time he speaks to the raven... OMG, the raven. Each time he was up, I was tempted to skip forward, story be damned. Mark Elstob has the talent for this, I am sure. However, he is in dire need of directing.

GW didn't care
I have to be honest, I couldn't finish this audiobook.
The story is interesting enough but everything else oozes lack of quality control and care for the product.
It begins with something simple : The mp3 tag is a typo. It's "Ahriam : Exile". Things like this happen but it shows that nobody seemed to care enough to proof read it.
The next problem - and the reason I didn't finish the book - is Mark Elstob. I know Ahriman has a strange voice lorewise. In most other audiobooks he sounds like you would imagine an old hawkish sorcerer. And Ahriman himself is not bad in this either.
But the rest is all over the place. Ahriman changes voices extremely quick from high pitched to low tone in some instances, Everybody else except Ahriman suffers from stupid voice syndrom. There are chaos space marines sounding like Dori from Find Nemo in the famous "you can't talk to whales" scene.
The cake takes - as mentioned by others - the "Raven". When this thing speaks to Ahriman, I needed to force myself to listen 'cause it's almost unbearable. I know, the warp, demons etc. But an audiobook should be somewhat enjoyable. The Raven sucked all enjoyment from every scene he was in.
I think Mark lacks direction in this one and this might be the worst 40k book I ever had listened to because of it.
TL;DR : Story ok, voice extremely bad.
Can not recommend.
