Dangerous second chance times for Brandon

Brandon Forte and GSD Haydn save his best and oldest friend Sophie from a car bomb by pure accident. Why all of a sudden is Sophie being targeted? Brandon is sure it has to do with their latest encounters at the kennels, so he sets everything in motion to keep Sophie safe and stay close to her at all times. But this unplanned nearness also brings out old emotions and unanswered questions since their High School time. Can he safe the woman, who always has meant the world to him? And what will become of their tentative restored friendship once the truth is spoken out aloud and all questions are answered?

It had been obvious since book 01 that Brandon & Sophie were lifelong friends and still had much chemistry between them. But this time Piper J. Drake could not enthrall me into their relationship development. It felt like a real slooooooooooow burner to me. While the mystery plot was escalating fast and rather violently, Brandon & Sophie kept on rehashing what they had not said and done long time ago. I had been more intrigued in dog Haydn and the new character Raul, and would have hugged the stuffing out of him for saving the cat. No doubt Haydn and the cat totally stole the show of this story! I really loved how they all at Hope´s Crossing Kennels become a truely caring big family.

Kristin Kalbli brilliantly brought out Sophie struggeling with trusting Brandon completely and fearing he would disappear on her again, as well as how torn she was between fullfilling her parents´expecataions and follwoing her dreams. I was impressed how Mrs Kalbli read fluently over all those Korean dish names. Daniel May had a tough role to read with mostly stoic and laconic Brandon. Thanks to his voice talent Brandon´s stubborness to protect Sophie and following him through his many flashbacks down memory lane, endeared him to me.
