Inhaltsangabe
Jean Pierre de Caussade (1675-1751) was a French Jesuit priest, college rector, itinerant preacher, missionary and writer.
In the book Abandonment to Divine Providence (published in 1851), he teaches the believer to submit to God’s will and to enjoy his loving presence. Abandonment is a term used by mystic writers to signify the first stage of the union of the soul with the divine, by conforming to God's will.
Abandoning an outcome to God is to follow the path of peace. Originally written as letters for the direction of Nuns, the book is an excellent guide for Christians yearning to attain resignation and peace.

THE Classic for Spiritual Guidance & Learning to Trust God Always
WOW! I was happily surprised to find the complete edition of my favorite spiritual book in audio format and read by an excellent linguist.
I will just add to this review the comments of a five star rating I gave of the paperback edition a while back on Amazon:
If you have found that you have been lacking in or feel a need to supplement your Spiritual Direction I would highly recommend this treasure.
The second part of this book contains letters written by Fr. Caussade to those who had requested his spiritual advice and herein you will find the words of a man advanced in the interior life. There are over 150 letters in all. How he instructs and urges his spiritual children to complete abandonment to God and his mercy can be expressed in the following excerpt:
"Here is my answer to you, and to others like you. The keen perception of faults and imperfections is the grace suitable to this state, and it is a very precious grace. Why? First because this clear view of our miseries keeps us humble, and even sometimes inspires us with a wholesome horror and a holy fear of ourselves. Secondly, because this state, apparently so miserable and so desperate gives occasion to an heroic abandonment into the hands of God. Those who have gauged the depths of their own nothingness can no longer retain any kind of confidence in themselves, nor trust in any way to their works in which they can discover nothing but misery, self-love, and corruption. This absolute distrust and complete disregard of self is the source from which alone flow those delightful consolations of souls wholly abandoned to God, and form their inalterable peace, holy joy and immovable confidence in God only. Oh! if you but knew the gift of God, the value, merit, power, peace and holy assurance of salvation hidden in this state of abandonment, you would soon be delivered from all your fears and anxieties."
He pulls no punches advising that sooner or later we must abandon ourselves to God:
"Nevertheless you will, necessarily, have to come to it, at least at the hour of death; because, without an express revelation and assurance of eternal salvation, no one can be free from fear at the last moment, and therefore, every one is absolutely compelled then to abandon themselves to the very great mercy of God. "
This book is great help in preparing for that "hour".
