Legends are not my type

I'm having a hard time following the author, as he relies on legends rather than drawing historical conclusions from archaeological findings. Right at the beginning, there's talk of a Chinese invasion with a million casualties, and this is repeated without questioning it. I'm not interested in tales about the likely romanticized character of an early queen, but in history that is as objective as possible and based on scientific research.
