I can‘t believe the good ratings. The best about this story is the narrator. The storyline itself is predictable and spends way too much time on boring, nostalgic descriptions of the South. The prose is average at best and real horror only enters towards the end. But the protagonist sleepwalks through it as if it happened to somebody else. No actual fear or horror only dispassionate cataloguing. Feels more like a real estate‘s description of Charleston. Did I mention that it‘s boring …?
