The village of Saint-Ferdinand has all the trappings of a quiet life: farmhouses stretching from one main street, a small police precinct, a few diners and cafés, and a grocery store. This book sucks. While it clearly tries to be horror, it isn't any sort of horror I recognize. This is no slow-burn cosmic horror, no mystery with a shocking reveal, not even a decent creature-feature, and not enough gore for that to be the selling point. The characters are boring and poorly developed. The creature is supposed to be made somehow sympathetic, but that falls flatter than a crepe under a bulldozer.

I can kinda see how the author was "inspired" by "It", but "It" worked so well because the historical details actually felt realistic, the protagonists were likeable, and the creature actually terrifying. The characters here are a snooze-fest, the creature is lame, and even the pacing is absolute crap.

This was just a boring waste of time. There are no redeeming qualities. I regret every minute wasted on it. Dubeau? More like Da Bore.
