I get the hype now
In an attempt to balance out the previous reviews which, while passionate, didn't tell me much about what to expect, here's my own attempt :P
I wasn't sure what to think of our main character at first, because he's initially presented as someone who thinks they're the most clever person around, and he gets himself and his father into trouble by making a risky move when he should've known better.
But! He actually learns from his mistake. He and his father have to figure out how to deal with each other while surrounded by mortal dangers, and despite how things started, I ended up really invested.
Communication is hard irl, and even harder to write, but so so satisfying when done right. I think the author writes believable characters capable of change and growth, and coupled with some pretty tantalizing glimpses at a world that's not just info-dumped at us, but instead revealed organically, I'm about to buy the second audiobook right now.
I was hoping for the sub zero temperature setting to really influence how characters act, for cool tech and cultural impact, and got what I wanted. Also, the combat is fast paced but easy to follow, and the hints at magic we've gotten so far have me super curious about what's going on. Can't wait to learn more about what's going on with the relic armors!
The narrator is doing a great job too; some of the accents might be a bit much for some people, but I don't mind them much, and you can clearly tell who's speaking and what emotions are meant to be in their voice.

Träge Entwicklung..
Der Start (Zukunft) ist unnötig so gewählt. Nur um dann über mehrere Kapitel zu diesem Punkt zu kommen.
Der MC ist leider ein Trottel und verantwortlich, dass jemand stirbt, wegen einer Wette..
Er kann nicht kämpfen und wirklich besonders ist er ebenfalls nicht.
Eingebaut ist auch noch eine unnötige Story, in der es im Focus um einen Vater und seinen Sohn geht.
Von der Welt erfährt man immer nur kleine Häppchen.
Entwicklung leider auch sehr absehbar.
Es gibt keine Magie, auch wenn das in der Beschreibung angepriesen wird. Alles Tech..
Der MC wächst nicht und hat auch keine besonderen Fähigkeiten. Keine Ahnung warum man da mit Progress Story wirbt..
Beim Sprecher hört man manchmal nerviges Atmen, daher nur 4 Sterne.
