Rick Reed (the most hated man on the Evansville Police Department, now retired) was in law enforcement for 30 years--the last three years as commander of Internal Affairs--before retiring and becoming the author of the Detective Jack Murphy serial killer fiction series. Reed draws on personal experience as he brings serial killer-fiction to life in the small town of Evansville, Indiana.
In 2000 he caught serial killer, Joseph Weldon Brown, and recounted that case in his acclaimed book, BLOOD TRAIL. In 2009 he began writing fiction. His police thrilllers include, THE CRUELEST CUT, THE COLDEST FEAR, and FINAL JUSTICE.
All three books can be read as stand-alone, but all are based in the small midwestern town of Evansville, Indiana.
So... you thought nothing ever happened in the midwest, but you are dead wrong. Twenty miles northeast of Evansville was where John Dillinger began his career. And Evansville was the scene of horrendous murders by the "Mad Dog Killer" Leslie Irvin in the 1977, and the target for a serial killer, Joseph Weldon Brown, in 2000, who claimed fourteen victims before he was captured.
