Charles Ray has been writing fiction since his teens, winning a national Sunday school magazine writing contest while still in junior high school. He has worked as a newspaper and magazine journalist during the 60s and 70s, contributing articles, reviews, photographs, and artwork to publications in the US and abroad. His first full length work was a book on leadership, Things I Learned from My Grandmother About Leadership and Life, published in 2008. In 2009, he began writing fiction again, with the first in the Al Pennyback mystery series, Color Me Dead. He has since published more than 30 works of fiction and non-fiction.
A native of Texas who now calls Maryland home, he served 20 years in the army, and upon retirement joined the US Foreign Service, serving as a diplomat in more than six countries, and dealing with scores of others. Since his retirement from public service in 2012, he has devoted most of his time to writing and public speaking.
