Inhaltsangabe

Love: Not as easy as ABC.

They were supposed to keep things casual. Who’d expect they’d be schooled in love?

Those who can, teach. Marvin Block is one of the best kindergarten teachers out there. And despite his anxiety, Marvin’s life is sweet. He knows what he wants. And what he wants is the Teacher of the Year Award. Not just for himself--his school needs him to win.

Returning from break, the New Year finds Marvin all set to welcome a new pupil to his class. But when Illona walks in with her cute-as-hell single dad beside her, Marvin’s focus starts to slide.

Sure, his students always come first, but he deserves to have a life outside the classroom, too, right?

As their friendship starts to deepen, Marvin realizes Olan has the potential to teach him things about love he never thought possible. But with the Teacher of the Year award and his school’s future on the line, now’s not the time for anything complicated.

Education has always been Marvin’s world. And he needs to keep a cool head if he wants to win the award and save his school. But will it be worth it if he loses Olan in the process?

With Olan’s past and Marvin’s present colliding, their experiment in love hangs in the balance. Marvin knows what he wants out of life. But now he’s forced to consider what he wants out of love.

Will Marvin chalk the relationship up to experience? Or can they revise their story into a textbook romance?

Teacher of the Year is a steamy open door friends-to-lovers gay romance novel that explores the balance between friends, family, career, and relationships while overcoming trauma and dealing with anxiety.

Kritikerstimmen

"A love letter to queer educators, Teacher of the Year is a warm hug—and spicy treat—of a novel! M.A. Wardell expertly crafts characters who tug at heartstrings while validating our deepest needs. A laugh-out-loud, happy-cry, swoony-sigh read, prepare to meet your new auto-buy author!" (Courtney Kae, author of In the Event of Love)

“The quick wit, delightful humor, and emotional depth of M.A. Wardell's prose come together in this debut novel that explores the nuanced relationships between family, friends, and coworkers while navigating a budding romance and balancing the demands of others. This refreshing take on such universal topics resonates throughout and the author's voice, reminiscent of Alexis Hall, creates a gem of a story that has stuck with me months after reading.” (Jay Leigh, author of Whisper into the Night)

Literally one of my all time faves

tbh I pictured Olan a lot taller and bear like than he is in this, just my preference. So I was completely in love with this guy from the beginning. gods he flirted so much and didn't hold back in the slightest. the spicy scenes?? awesome. is this the first healthy romance book I've read so far? probs. I love it. It made me feel great and I'm really thinking about working with kindergarten kids. I'm already a librarian but I feel like constantly working with kids would be great. I'm a german native speaker so all the german words with a special meaning threw me off. Like yes Marvin, Olan is a Mensch, he is a human. Why is that a compliment? and so many other words as well. but as someone who's family was jewish up until my great grandma, it's really nice to learn more of the small things about it. I'm hoping for a dual pov book next tbh.. makes it feel more equal. I also cannot wait until 2025 gods I need the big gay wedding and I need to know that Gill (?) is going to be okay. Love this. thank you. <3

An incredibly sweet story that does not lack spice. Definitely one of my favorite romance stories and I can only recommend!

Sweet, fun and sexy

I probably shouldn't have started to listen to this book in the quiet zone on a train when travelling. I could hardly keep myself from laughing out loud so many times. I think I had a continuous smile on my face as I listened. Once home, however, I was free to be as nosy in my reactions as I wanted and so I belted out laughs and verbalised my being moved at so many sweet scenes with "awwws" while clutching at my heart or wiping my eyes when tears welled up.

The story about kindergarten teacher Marvin, engineer Olen and his 5y/o daughter Ilona was one that will stay with me for a long time, not only because my mother is a teacher and my father and engineer and I could relate to many professional details in the narrative. The MMC Marvin touched me from the beginning. He's such a sweet, caring and infinitely human personality with childhood trauma and the occasional anxiety attack.

Olden is a doting single dad who falls for his super cute daughter's teacher when they move into town and the two have a "let's take it slow" relationship that creeps up on them rather quickly, where deeper feelings are concerned. The falling for each other is sweet and hot, their attempts to be responsible and trying to protect themselves and others not always quite successful.

Going along for the ride was a delight, a feelgood story that doesn't lack in depth, sucking you in from the start and making you root all the way through for two of the most loveable fictional characters with so many adorable little quirks. What I also loved in particular is that both MMCs come from minority backgrounds and their respective communities and cultures are portrayed in a fun, loving and charming manner that still manages to address the challenges of being different and never quite fitting in. Seeing Marvin and Olen navigate life and their relationship with some baggage but so much heart was such a wonderful reading/listening experience and I can only highly recommend this to anyone looking for a feelgood, tug-your-heartstrings kind of book that has you smiling long after the last page is turned.
