Great, different heroine!
While I did like the speaker, the story, the characters and the writing a lot, there were situations that felt a bit fake. I guess it fits into a fairytale, and perhaps this is a bit of a fairytale, but I was expecting a different kind of story. I did enjoy it either way though and thought it was a good read.

Different Kind of Heroine
I really enjoyed this fairytale like story, mostly for the heroine who was unlike most I have read about. She is not a teenager, not the chosen one, not even remotly interesting, smart or cunning. She is just a girl, that happend to be born a princess and up to her 30th year, she lives a boring convent live. But she has a wonderful heart and never wavers in trying to help her sister, completing on impossible task, after another and gaining powerful friends, that all play an important part. I feel like her sisters story would have been a typical YA fantasy story, her being smart and in a horrible situation and that story would probably have bored me. The story told, went at times rather slow, at points ist was predictable, but it was very well told and full of magic and immensely enjoyable. I will listen to this story again and again.

Unique story
This book has an unique story with really great characters. The narrator was amazing! I really enjoyed to listen to this book. But for me the protagonist was 20 years old and not 30.

Boring, slow - I don't understand the hype
I discovered some pretty great fantasy stories through Audible, but this was an utter disappointment. There was zero character development, the entire storyline was foreseeable and linear like a stick. What was frustrating though, were the missed opportunities. Some good elements in there, but left completely unexplored. After a strong start and the creation of pretty interesting sidekick (dog of bones magically brought back to life), it was went down from there. The OP was whiny, annoying, and dependent on the explanation of the most basic facts from her group members, who did all the work, but even they were unrelatable and boring. There was endless, senseless rambling masked as conversations, starting with ummms and aaahs and conclusions devoid of logic. The soft romance elements added nothing and their relationship was not believable. I liked some feminist thoughts, but they suffered under the ridiculous OP, that behaved like a child, not a 30-year old woman. I don't understand the high ratings at all. I suffered through the book in the hope for a good ending. I was disappointed. The speaker was good and saved the very few things that could be saved.
