Wonderful exciting story, and nicely narrated
Excellent, I loved how the story is fast paced, the world building is elaborate and makes sense, and the characters are likable, even though they of course have their edges each.

Exeptionally enjoyable
After reading book 1 - 9 of the Kate Daniel series I followed the rec to read this one before book 10. And I loved it very much!

Surprising
Most people that read or heard other books of Ilona Andrews such as the main story to this one were disappointed with this side story.
I for found it rather impressive though since it sheds a new light on the main characters and their background. The leading character of this story is new and different. Her cause, goals and person seem to be unimportant for the main story at first but she will be yet another factor that will decide over the outcome of the original characters' fate.
Hugh, a character that is meant to be despised but which I already liked in his appearance in the main story proves to have many hidden skills and traits worth discovering.
As a pair these both are complicated but thrilling and as expected a masterpiece.
Ilona Andrews is one of the only fantasy authors that don't only reuse old ideas and ideals.
Their characters are real with much development and their knowledge (of everything from weaponry, over herbs, to history), outstanding research and story complexity thrill me yet again.
I was really growing sick of always only reading about selfless heroines that look gorgeous but have no brain and flat, predictable storylines so I'm glad I found another good author beside my few favourites that can still surprise me with every chapter.

Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass diese Sto3y so genial werden würde. wie sollte man Hugh mögen können nach dem man alle anderen bisherigen Kate Daniles Bücher gelesen hat? Vertrauen und Ilona Andrews!
wieder eine Geschichte mir genialen Schreibstil und super Charakteren! bin gespannt wie sich diese Geschichte weiter entwickelt.
Der Sprecher hat mir sehr gut gefallen und passte perfekt zum Buch

Decent Fantasy
The book is decent fantasy with all the stuff that comes with it. Wizards, necromancers, Druids, gods, other worlds, anything you could think of. But since this is all old news for the characters it doesn't feel like the book makes an effort to get you to understand that world or to get you interested in it's secrets. Instead too much weird sex dreams/scenes/references and too much of that "we hate each other, but we can't go without each other" instead of that more story and maybe a little twist in it would have been nice. It's pretty linear. Also there was more room for witty use of tech- and magic-time, since this should be in this world in the future I guess?
